TuneTheory listens every ten milliseconds and shows pitch to a fraction of a cent.
The needle moves as you turn the peg. The moment the note lands it turns teal and stops. That's it, you're in tune.
Under it is the live waveform of your string. Sharp or flat, it drifts sideways. In tune, it stands perfectly still. The chromatic tuner runs the same detector, with the nearest note, frequency, and cents, and a reference pitch you can set anywhere from A4 = 415 to 466 Hz.
